Monday 5th September 2016

There was little sign of the sea activity seen yesterday evening but 2 Red-breasted Mergansers, a Red-throated Diver, 18 Gannets, and single Arctic and Great Skuas were recorded this morning. Ringing included a new Whinchat and retrap Stonechat. The wandering Arctic Skua was around the grazing marsh again this afternoon, taking several tours of the east bank and sea wall. A Water Rail and 2 Tawny Owls were heard from the platform, and wader activity included 20 Whimbrel, 7 Black-tailed Godwit, 2 Common Sandpipers, a Green Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Redshank, a Greenshank and 2 Snipe. Flyover Grey and Yellow Wagtails were of note, and a Whinchat and 2 Stonechats were around the Obs reserve.
