COVID-19 Update Monday 12th April 2021

Further to the lifting of restrictions on Monday 12th April 2021 the NOA reserves and car parks remain open to visitors but hides remain closed. We are hoping to be able to open hides to visitors on Monday 17th May 2021 in line with expected changes to government restrictions, and will post further updates on this page prior to the changes commencing.
We continue to thank all our members and visitors for their patience, and for continuing to keep our staff and visitors safe.

Thursday 13th October 2016

An excellent day for migration with a bigger variety of species noted today. On the sea one Eider, 200 Common Scoters, a Red-throated Diver and 7 Gannets were recorded. Three Water Rails and a Woodcock were seen, and 2 Tawny and 2 Barn Owls were present. Goldcrests continued to arrive with over 250 counted, and 2 Firecrests trapped and ringed at the Observatory during the morning. Also of note were 2 Bearded Tits, 2 Swallows, 2+ Cetti's Warblers, 2 Yellow-browed Warblers, 3 Chiffchaffs, 8 Blackcaps, a Reed Warbler, 3+ Ring Ouzels, a Fieldfare, 20 Blackbirds, 30 Song Thrushes, 80+ Redwings, 5 Mistle Thrushes, 300+ Robins, 2 Stonechats, a Rock Pipit, 26 Bramblings, 15 Redpolls, 10 Siskins, a Lapland Bunting and 15 Reed Buntings counted during the day.

Ringing totals were 178 new birds of 18 species including 76 Robins, 54 Goldcrests, 2 Firecrests, 3 Redpolls, and 2 Bearded Tits.
