Saturday 7th April 2018

A good day for spring migration, with a Hooded Crow flying south-west over the NWT at 2.15pm, and ringing at the Observatory producing 28 new birds including 14 Chiffchaffs, a Willow Warbler, a female Stonechat and a male Firecrest.
An immature Glaucous Gull was on the beach and flew off east, with other highlights including an Eider, single Long-tailed Duck, 9 Red-breasted Mergansers, 2500 Common Scoters, and a Sandwich Tern seen at sea. A Red Kite drifted over, a Spoonbill flew past and a Short-eared Owl was hunting near the NWT entrance gate mid morning. The Peregrine was also noted, and overall 15 Swallows passed through west, with 20+ Chiffchaffs, 2 Willow Warblers, 6 Blackcaps, a male Sedge Warbler, and a Grey Wagtail also recorded during the day.
