CORONAVIRUS UPDATE – THURSDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2020

COVID-19 Restrictions on NOA Reserves Further to the announcement of a second lockdown in order to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus, the NOA must once again close all hides on its nature reserves from 5th November. While we would discourage anyone from travelling too far during this crucial time, our reserves themselves will remain open for local visitors and usual charges will apply for non-members. Please follow government advice, and respect social distancing at all times. We will restore access to our facilities as and when government restrictions permit. We are very grateful for your understanding and support.

Holme Bird Observatory Monday 31st August 2020

A pleasant and sunny day with a reducing north wind. On the sea highlights included 20 Shelduck, 28 Wigeon, 27 Teal, 74 Common Scoters, a Red-throated Diver, 3 Fulmars, 7 Gannets, 2 Arctic Skuas, 3 Great Skuas, 26 Little Terns, 16 Sandwich Terns, a Common Tern and a Med Gull. Also of interest were 2 Great White Egrets, 2 Water Rails, 4 Whimbrel, 150+ Black-tailed Godwits, a Common and 2 Green Sandpipers, a Kingfisher, 4 Swifts, a Sand Martin, 10 Swallows, 120+ House Martins, 3 Cetti's Warblers, a Chiffchaff, 4 Willow Warblers, 2 Blackcaps, a Lesser Whitethroat, 10 Whitethroats, 4 Stonechats, 3 Wheatears, Yellow, Grey and Pied Wagtail singles.

In the moth traps 2 Silver Ys, a Garden Pebble, 3 Vine's Rustics, 4 Setaceous Hebrew Characters, 3 Square-spot Rustics, 7 Large Yellow Underwings, 7 Flounced Rustics, 2 Turnips, 5 Archer's Darts, a Common Wainscot, a Fern, 2 Seathorn Groundlings and a Pied Smudge were noted.

Butterflies included Common Blue, Small Copper, Brown Argus, Small Heath, Small Tortoiseshell, Peacock and Red Admiral.
