CORONAVIRUS UPDATE – THURSDAY 5th NOVEMBER 2020

COVID-19 Restrictions on NOA Reserves Further to the announcement of a second lockdown in order to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus, the NOA must once again close all hides on its nature reserves from 5th November. While we would discourage anyone from travelling too far during this crucial time, our reserves themselves will remain open for local visitors and usual charges will apply for non-members. Please follow government advice, and respect social distancing at all times. We will restore access to our facilities as and when government restrictions permit. We are very grateful for your understanding and support.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 25th October 2020

Another blustery day but with some sunshine, 400 Pink-feet and 350 Brents were counted during the day and a single Barnacle Goose was of interest. On the sea a Long-tailed Duck, 500 Common Scoter, 5 Red-breasted Mergansers, 6 Red-throated Divers, 79 Gannets, 25 Great Crested Grebes and 2 Guillemots were counted. On the grazing marshes 600 Golden Plover, 120 Curlew, 25 Black-tailed Godwits and a single Ruff were noted while Barn and Tawny Owl, 2 Bearded Tits near the Broadwater hide, 2 Swallows, 3 Cetti's Warblers, single Chiffchaff and Blackcap, 3 Rock Pipits, 2 Bramblings, 3 Siskins and a Yellowhammer were also recorded. Seven Twite were at Thornham Harbour and a Red-flanked Bluetail was again seen near the Golf Course.

In the moth traps single Angle Shades and a Sallow were the only specimens caught, but 10 Common Darters and a Migrant Hawker were flying in the autumn sunshine.
