COVID-19 Update Monday 12th April 2021

Further to the lifting of restrictions on Monday 12th April 2021 the NOA reserves and car parks remain open to visitors but hides remain closed. We are hoping to be able to open hides to visitors on Monday 17th May 2021 in line with expected changes to government restrictions, and will post further updates on this page prior to the changes commencing.
We continue to thank all our members and visitors for their patience, and for continuing to keep our staff and visitors safe.

Holme Bird Observatory Sunday 4th October 2020

                                                Scarce Bordered Straw and Olive-tree Pearl


Another excellent day of migration with notable records including 3 Red Kites, a Whimbrel, 8 Snipe, Barn, Tawny and Short-eared Owls, 4+ Swifts, Kingfisher, Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 45 Goldcrests, 10 Skylarks, 10+ Swallows, 50+ House Martins, 10 Yellow-browed Warblers around the recording area (3 ringed at the Observatory), 25 Chiffchaffs, 40 Blackcaps, 3 Garden Warblers, 4 Lesser Whitethroats (two ringed at the Observatory both of eastern race), 2+ Ring Ouzels on the NWT dunes reserve, 3 Mistle Thrushes, a Red-breasted Flycatcher reported at the Golf Course, 2 Pied Flycatchers, 6+ Redstarts, 8+ Stonechats, 15 Bramblings, 4 Redpolls and 14 Siskins. The Blyth's Reed Warbler continued to show for some giving good views at times, seen near the Heligoland trap.


The moth traps contained some migratory species too, with Scarce Bordered Straw, 2 Rusty Dot Pearl and Olive-tree Pearl among the catch.
